'57 Plymouth buried in Tulsa - Saturday, June 16, 2007

If you are wondering what a car looks like after being removed from a concrete vault time capsule after 50 years , this is the place to find out : http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070616/...ried_belvedere

Folks with visions of seeing a pristine '57 Plymouth being lifted out of the vault were probably shocked. The concrete was not sealed to keep the ground water out......the results were quite disgusting to see.......but the pictures show it in all it's deplorable gloryT he first photos of the '57 Plymouth buried in Tulsa are starting to appear. As expected, she's in a bad way.
Apparently the items placed inside the car as a time capsule did not fare much better. The Schlitz survived, but the purse and other fragile items did not. Event officials were still looking for the microfilm that would reveal the winner of the vehicle and a $100 savings account (worth $1200 today). Boyd Coddington and his crew were unable to get the car started, however the tires held air.

A car quote uttered by the owner of a salvage yard regarding the Buddy Holly Impala sums up this Plymouth nicely:

"Even though it's in rough condition, a little paint, a little steel wool, and a little millions of dollars and millions of hours it could be made new again."
